Mr. Karan Johar
Filmmaker & Producer

Karan Johar is amongst a young group of Indian film makers who have brought about a fresh and modern outlook to Hindi commercial cinema. His directorial debut, at age 25, was 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' (1998), a landmark movie that was appreciated both critically and commercially in India and the world over.

Karan Johar began his involvement in films by being involved in the scripting of Aditya Chopra's 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge'. The huge appeal of this movie to mass audiences everywhere caused Karan Johar to then write his own script, 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', which became his directorial debut. This period also saw Karan Johar assist his father, Yash Johar, in the production of his ongoing film 'Duplicate', as well as contribute to Yash Chopra's making of 'Dil To Pagal Hai' by handling all the costumes for movie star Shah Rukh Khan.

'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' opened to widespread acclaim and earned Karan Johar several prestigious awards for direction, story, screenplay and dialogues. The film also earned awards for its principal artistes and technicians.

Karan Johar followed up this success with his second film, the multi starrer 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' (2001), which broke box office records all over the world with its release in 2001. Besides being featured in the UK charts for four weeks (entering at No.3, December 14th, 2001 weekend), 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' also holds the prestigious record of being the first Indian film to enter the US top ten charts.

Dharma Productions released another successful movie 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' (2003), which was written by Karan Johar. The Screenplay of 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' has found a place in the Oscar Archives at the Library of Motion Pictures, Arts and Science, an academy where scripts are collected and preserved mainly for the use for research by actors, students, film-makers and writers who are regular patrons of the library.

Karan Johar's third directorial venture - `Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' (Never Say Goodbye) (2006), released in August 2006. It holds the distinction of having the biggest opening worldwide ever in the history of Indian Cinema. Its position on the US and UK Top 10 charts is enviable to say the least.
