Welcome to the 13th Annual Wharton Africa Business Forum (WABF)! On
behalf of the Wharton Africa Student Association (WASA), we proudly
invite you to participate in one of Wharton's finest legacies.
This year, the conference presents a free screening of the award winning documentary "Africa: Open for Business." Produced and directed by Carol Pineau, the documentary has been widely acclaimed and was screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2005. Building on the theme and the documentary, this year's conference will explore how institutions and individuals are successfully navigating the African business terrain and employing strategies that enable them to uncover and to capitalize on the vast opportunities that Africa presents.
Discussion topics to be expounded on include the mystery of raising capital in Africa, constructing a viable foundation for African real estate businesses, a Wharton case study of private equity in Africa, treading Botswana's economic growth path, keeping the lights on in Africa, investing in life through healthcare and leveraging brain drain into brain gain. Speakers include Irene Charnley, commercial director of MTN Group, Nkosana Moyo, managing partner at Actis, and Dr. Kwesi Nduom, Ghana's minister for public sector reform.
In the course of the last decade, the Wharton African Business Forum has provided thought leadership and innovation for the transformation of business in Africa. As a core component of the Wharton Global Business Forum, WABF has also matured in its status as the pre-eminent melting pot for business leaders, investors, academics and scholars to engage in dialogue about business developments across Africa and vis a vis Asia, Europe, India, Latin America and West Asia.
We would like to thank our corporate sponsors and partners for making the 13th edition possible.
We invite you all to join us as we usher the way into a new dispensation for business in Africa!
Sincerely,
