On behalf of the student organizers of the Wharton India Economic Forum (WIEF) and The Wharton School, we are pleased to welcome you to our Ninth Annual Conference - "The Dawn of an Indian Century?”
India is the new buzzword in global business. Reforms initiated just over a decade ago have completely changed the face of the Indian economy, transforming India from a small and protected market hobbled by the "license raj," to an increasingly significant player in the global economy. Indian companies have adapted to the sweeping changes brought on by globalization and free-trade by transforming themselves into outward-looking corporations that effectively exploit the numerous comparative advantages offered by India. However, enormous challenges – social, political, and economic threaten to derail this process of change.
WIEF has traced this fascinating transformation of Indian industry over the past eight conferences. The ninth conference will continue to do so while critically analyzing India’s potential to realize its position as an economic superpower. The thought-leaders, entrepreneurs, executives and policy makers that you will hear over the course of the day will therefore address not just the tremendous potential, but also the awesome challenges facing India as she moves forward. The theme of this conference is a question rather than a statement precisely to promote lively discussion.
We sincerely hope that you will enjoy the conference and benefit from the experience and wisdom of our speakers. We also hope that you will actively participate in the discussions and share your opinions and ideas freely to enrich the experience of your fellow attendees.
Sincerely,
Dr. Vijay Shreedhar MBA Chair |
Mr. Kunal Bahl Undergraduate Co-Chair |
Mr. Samarth Singh Undergraduate Co-Chair |
