Mr. Elias Pungong,
Partner, Oil and Gas Division, PricewaterhouseCoopers Gabon

Mr. Elias Pungong is a Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers Sub Saharan Francophone Africa (PwC SSFA).  He was called into the college of Partners in 2001 and became a full equity worldwide Partner in June 2003.  In addition, to being a Client Service Partner, he also has the following responsibilities: 

  • Member of the PwC Francophone Africa Leadership Board of Partners, with a total of 5 members;
  • Main Client Service Partner for the Oil and Gas activities in Francophone Africa;
  • Risk Management and Independence Leader for Francophone Africa.

He was educated  in  Sacred  Heart  College  in Bamenda, Cameroon,  where he obtained his A-levels  and won a Cameroonian government scholarship to study Mathematics in the UK. He subsequently graduated with First Class Honors in Mathematics and Engineering, before proceeding to St. Catherine’s College, Oxford University, where he obtained an MSc in Applied Statistics in 1991.  After graduation, he embarked on a career in accountancy, which was sold to him at the time as the premier business career. In 1995, he qualified as a Chartered  Accountant  (England  and  Wales) and in 1996 transferred to the Brussels  office  of  the  then “Big Six” firm Price Waterhouse where he was promoted  Manager  in 1998 and Senior Manager in 1999. He was transferred to PwC  Africa  in  1999,  first  to  the  Douala, Cameroon office, where he spent 9 months,  before  moving to PwC Libreville, Gabon where he has been resident till date.

 He  has  extensive knowledge and experience within the Oil and Gas Industry in  Africa  as  he lead  the  audits  and  advises  the affiliates of major multinational  companies  such  as  Shell,  ExxonMobil, ChevronTexaco, Eni, Marathon, Amerada Hess, and Total within the Oil-Rich Central Africa Sub-region. He also has particular expertise on the local fiscal and accounting implications of Production Sharing Contracts and Concession Agreements.  To this regard, he regularly organizes local seminars and training in these areas. He is also regularly invited as speaker at various international conferences both inside and out outside Africa.
