Format of Competition

 

 

Description
All applicants should submit an executive summary of their proposed business venture.
NOTE: Competition is open to only new businesses.
The eight most promising executive summaries from Stage I will be invited to submit a complete business plan in Stage II.
The three finalists will be required to present and defend their business plans at the Wharton Africa Business Forum on November 20 2004.
Submission Requirements
Maximum of 1000 words. All entries must be uploaded on the submission page by the deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted. Additional instructions are available here.
The complete business plan must be uploaded on the submission page by the Stage II deadline. 50 pages (double line spacing) and font size 12 restrictions. Late submissions are automatically timed-out.

Venture capitalists and consultants are available to help candidates fine tune their business plans for Stage II. Request for assistance should be mailed to Patrick Iyamabo by Friday September 3, 2004. Additional instructions are available here.

Venture capitalists and consultants are available to provide one-on-one mentoring to candidates. Kindly mail requests for mentor to Patrick Iyamabo by Thursday October 21, 2004.


Judging procedure
Plans will be evaluated for focus on Africa, originality, quality and viability of concept.

Feedback procedure
The Top 8 executive summaries from Stage I will be announced on this website on August 27, 2004.
The three finalists will be announced on this website on October 18 2004. Finalists are guaranteed prizes and must be registered for the conference.
Deadlines
Friday August 6, 2004 5:00pm (Eastern Time Tuesday September 28, 2004 5:00pm (Eastern Time).

In view of the short interval between the announcement of Stage I results and the Stage II deadline, we advise candidates to commence work on Stage II even before the announcement of Stage I results.

Winners will be announced at the Global Conference Banquet on November 20 2004.
