Panels

Panel 1: Privatizations in Latin America

Latin American governments have possessed multiple businesses, ranging from commodities such as oil refineries or copper mining to utilities such as telecommunications or water distribution.  Over the last couple of decades many of these enterprises have been privatized. A large debate over whether remaining public companies should become privately owned has set forward a widespread debate on the virtues and evils of privatization.
This panel will focus on experiences both from the private and public sector viewpoints, trying to dissect the positive and negative experiences, to share the lessons and takeaways their experience has yielded and submit a point of view on the probability of privatization of the remaining state-owned enterprises.
