Panels
Panel 1:
Privatizations in Latin America
Latin American
governments have possessed multiple businesses, ranging
from commodities such as oil refineries or copper mining
to utilities such as telecommunications or water
distribution. Over
the last couple of decades many of these enterprises
have been privatized. A large debate over whether
remaining public companies should become privately owned
has set forward a widespread debate on the virtues and
evils of privatization.
This panel will focus on experiences both from the
private and public sector viewpoints, trying to dissect
the positive and negative experiences, to share the
lessons and takeaways their experience has yielded and
submit a point of view on the probability of
privatization of the remaining state-owned enterprises.

Panel 2: Latin
American Multinationals
The norm within
developing regions and particularly in Latin America is
to have multinational foreign companies establishing
themselves within the region. However, a select group of
Latin American companies have dared to transcend their
own country and have established themselves in multiple
countries both within and outside of Latin America.
Question
such as what’s next for these Latin American companies
and what other companies that want to follow in their
footsteps and grow internationally have to do will be
posed. This panel wishes to explore the stories behind
these companies, the path they took in their
international expansion and the current challenges they
face in their battle to become successful global
companies.
