Stoyan Tenev is Chief Economist for East Asia and
Pacific at the International Finance Corporation. He
covers China, Indonesia, Korea, Philippines, Thailand
and Vietnam as well as the smaller economies in the
region. He joined IFC in 1996 after two years with the
World Bank where he was macroeconomist in the Policy
and Research Department. He led the establishment of
the China Project Development Facility, a multi-donor
IFC managed institution created to support the development
of private small and medium sized enterprises in the
interior of China. Mr. Tenev has managed World Bank
Group’s technical assistance work in China and
Vietnam in the areas of private sector development and
corporate governance. He has co-authored several articles
and books including: Informality and the Playing Field
in Vietnam’s Business Sector (2003), Corporate
Governance and Enterprise Reform in China: Building
the Institutions of Modern Markets (2002) and China’s
Emerging Private Enterprises (2000).
Stoyan Tenev received his PhD in economics from the
University of Maryland.
