ARJUNA COSTA

Vice President, WPA Cambridge

 

Arjuna Costa brings to the WPA team experience in both the financial sector as well as development in Africa. As a Vice President of WPA, Mr. Costa serves as the acquisition and finance lead, with primary responsibility for balance sheet analysis and restructuring, earnings projection and optimization, pricing, and valuation modeling. Mr. Costa played an integral role in the formation of AIFH, with primary responsibility for financial structuring and legal arrangements. At WPA, Mr. Costa is currently managing the restructuring and privatization of Banque Commerciale du Rwanda, where he oversaw an extensive cost-cutting and re-pricing assignment. Mr. Costa was also responsible for the development of complex linear optimization models used for restructuring and privatizing Uganda Commercial Bank Limited.

o Prior to WPA, Mr. Costa spent five years with the investment banking firm of Lehman Brothers in New York City. While at Lehman Brothers, he was responsible for the financial analysis and execution of numerous transactions totaling over $10 billion. His work included sophisticated financial engineering and advisory work for state and local governments as well as electric utilities and, airports and toll road authorities. After leaving Lehman Brothers, he served as the trade and investment advisor to the African Development Foundation (ADF), an agency of the US Government that is responsible for grassroots level enterprise development in sub-Saharan Africa. While at ADF, Mr. Costa designed and spearheaded the formation of a venture capital fund targeted at indigenous small and medium scale enterprises, with a geographic focus on Zimbabwe and Uganda.

o Mr. Costa graduated from Columbia College, Columbia University in New York with an AB in Computer Science and received an MBA from the Harvard Business School. While at Harvard, his research interests included privatization and large-scale project investments in the context of economies in transition.
