Guy Dawson
Guy Dawson joined Merrill Lynch in 1996 as co-head of the UK
investment banking team. In 1997, he was appointed co-head of investment
banking for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In 1999 he became
Chairman of investment banking for Merrill Lynch in this region,
focusing on major client relationships.
Guy joined Merrill at a time in which the firm was developing its
presence in the fast growing European market. Guy was a key player in
helping the firm grow through a combination of acquisition and
recruitment. As co-head of investment banking from 1996-98, Guy has led
the growth of the firm to a leadership position in mergers &
acquisitions and equity and debt issuance.
In 1999, Guy reverted to his first love of major client
relationships, with the title of Chairman of Investment Banking for
Merrill Lynch in Europe. Since then, he has overseen a large number of
transactions across the region including RWE of Germany's $10 billion
acquisition of Thames Water of the UK.
Before joining Merrill Lynch, Guy had spent 19 years at Morgan
Grenfell, latterly as head of investment banking for Deutsche Morgan
Grenfell. Guy successfully rebuilt Morgan Grenfell's advisory practice
after a business downturn in the late 1980's, and became head of
investment banking at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell after Morgan Grenfell's
acquisition by the leading German bank. He has a degree in Law from
Oxford and is a qualified barrister.
Guy has extensive experience of advisory and corporate finance work
with major UK and European public companies.
