Steven Theobald
Steven Theobald is the Head of the Financial Institution Group-Asia Pacific Region. In this capacity, he is responsible for assisting financial institutions across the region with capital raising activities, strategic policy and acquisition and disposition strategies and executions. Previously, he worked at Lehman Brothers in the Financial Institutions Group as a Managing Director and as Head of the Financial Restructuring Group where he led the advisory assignments for the Thai Financial Sector Restructuring Authority of Thailand which was the focus of the finance company and loan restructuring process during the crisis; the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency which directed the bank restructuring, asset disposition and loan restructuring and disposition activities of the government; and advisory assignments to acquire or dispose of financial institutions in the region.
Prior to Lehman Brothers, Mr. Theobald worked at Merrill Lynch for sixteen years where he worked both, as Managing Director of the Structured Finance Department and Head of the Collateralized Mortgage Obligation Trading Desk where he was responsible for the creation of billions of dollars of structured derivative transactions and the management of structured product trading positions, and as a Managing Director in the Public Finance and Mortgage Finance Groups, with private and public sector clients and customers, to raise capital, structure transactions to purchase or sell assets and facilitate the enhancement of yield and capital efficiency. Mr. Theobald advised clients such as the Government National Mortgage Association, Federal National Mortgage Association, the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, The City of New York, the State of California, Prudential Insurance, Citibank, General Electric and GMAC.
Mr. Theobald also worked as the Director of Finance of the Illinois Housing Development Authority, a quasi-public institution responsible for financing low and moderate income housing, where he designed and implemented accounting, asset management, risk management, loan portfolio and investment portfolio systems. Mr. Theobald was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and his MBA from the University of Chicago.
