Joel L. A. Peterson
Joel L. A. Peterson is Vice President – Corporate Development for Concert. He is responsible for corporate strategy, business development and all mergers and acquisitions activities worldwide. Prior to joining Concert, Mr. Peterson was Executive Director – Corporate Development for BellSouth Corporation. He led numerous domestic wireless, infrastructure, intellectual property and emerging business related deals, and had overall responsibility for all international complex merger and acquisition activity, and was architect of BellSouth’s European strategy. He worked on over 50 transactions in over 25 countries.
Mr. Peterson grew up in St. Peter, a small rural town in Minnesota. A National Merit Scholar, he attended the University of Virginia. After completing a core engineering curriculum, he ultimately received a BA in Economics and Foreign Affairs. Upon graduation, Mr. Peterson was commissioned an officer in the United States Navy, where he was a Distinguished Graduate of the Surface Warfare Officers School. He served seven years, including four years of sea duty onboard an aircraft carrier and a destroyer. During his Navy career, Mr. Peterson was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Medal.
Mr. Peterson also taught as an Assistant Professor of Naval Science at Virginia Tech, where he received a Masters in Business Administration (Magna Cum Laude). He was selected as the most outstanding Naval Science Professor in the nation. Following active duty, Mr. Peterson became a corporate banker. He spent several years with large U.S. and international banks, rising to a managing vice president position. As an international corporate banker, he specialized in highly structured cross-border corporate finance deals.
Mr. Peterson serves as a director on the Board of the Emory University School of Medicine’s Walden School, as well as a director on the advisory board of the Devereux Georgia Treatment Network, which serves emotionally and mentally disturbed youth. He is a member of Leadership Atlanta, a federally appointed member of the Georgia Advisory Committee on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. He continues to be an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve, where he holds the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Mr. Peterson, his wife Janis and son, Drew, live in Cobb County, Georgia.
